Construction Schedule on Germantown Avenue
Avenue Reopened!

Despite a steady rain, (left to right) Vernon Price, staffer to 8th District Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller; developer Stan Smith; Adnan Jaffar, PennDOT project engineer; Anita Hamilton, board president, Wister Neighborhood Council; and Steven Kinsey, staffer for State Rep. John Myers were in sunny spirits on Wednesday, November 25 as they cut the ribbon at Germantown Avenue and Queen Lane to mark the reopening of the final stretch of Germantown Avenue to traffic.
Some sidewalk and utility work remains to be done in the area, and parking is still restricted along that stretch of the Avenue.
The roadway reconstruction on Germantown Avenue was scheduled completed on November 25. Germantown Avenue has reopened between Queen Lane and Coulter Street.
Queen Lane to Coulter Street
Germantown Avenue has been closed to vehicular traffic from just north of Queen Lane to just south of Coulter Street for the reconstruction of the roadway. The road will be reopened to traffic on November 25. On November 25 Queen Lane will revert back to the preconstruction one-way traffic pattern from Greene Street to Germantown Avenue. The contractor will continue with the installation of the sidewalks along Germantown Avenue. Additional crews will continue the installation of the street light foundations and trolley poles. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. No work will be performed on Thanksgiving Day.
Coulter Street to Church Lane
The contractor will continue to install the overhead trolley wires and traffic signal wires. The contractor is also scheduled to continue the installation of the parking and street name signs. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No work will be performed on Thanksgiving Day.
Ashmead Street to Queen Lane
Crews will continue the installation of the overhead catenary and traffic signal wires. The remaining work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No work will be performed on Thanksgiving Day.

Reconstruction of Germantown Avenue: November 16 -20
Queen Lane to Coulter Street
Germantown Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic from just north of Queen Lane to just south of Coulter Street for the reconstruction of the roadway. The intersections of Coulter Street and Queen Lane will remain open to traffic. Germantown Avenue through traffic is detoured on Wayne Avenue by way of Seymour Street and Armat Street.
The contractor will continue the reconstruction of the roadway with the installation of the granite block paving in the roadway shoulder area along with the installation of the sidewalks along Germantown Avenue. Additional crews will continue the installation of the street light foundations and trolley poles. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The contractor will continue the reconstruction of the roadway with the placement of the base course for the granite block paving. Additional crews will continue to install the granite block paving in the roadway shoulder area. The contractor will continue to prepare to install sidewalks along the west sidewalk within the closure area. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The contractor will work to complete the installation of the remaining street trees and miscellaneous landscaping items. Additional crews will continue the installation of the overhead trolley wires. Additional crews will prepare to install sidewalks. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended morning hours are expected.
Coulter Street to Church Lane
The contractor will work to complete the installation of the remaining street trees and landscaping items. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor has completed the repairs at the intersection of Walnut Lane. The intersection is currently under cure. The work may result in lane shifts during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30p p.m.

The contractor will continue the reconstruction of the roadway with the placement of the concrete for track structure along with the base course for the granite block paving. Additional crews will prepare to install sidewalks within the closure.

The contractor will work to complete the installation of the remaining street trees and miscellaneous landscaping items. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor will continue to perform repairs along the west shoulder at the intersection of Walnut Lane. This work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue.
The intersection of Walnut Lane will remain open to Germantown Avenue traffic while traffic on Walnut Lane will experience lane shifts during working hours.

The parking restrictions will continue along the north side of Queen Lane to accommodate a temporary two way traffic pattern from Germantown Avenue to Greene Street. The contractor will continue to cure granite block paving repairs on the west side of the Avenue from Queen Lane to Ashmead Street. This will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue.
The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended morning hours are expected during concrete placements.
Reconstruction of Germantown Avenue: October 12 - 16
Queen Lane to Coulter Street.
Germantown Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic from just south of Queen Lane to just south of Coulter Street for the reconstruction of the roadway. The intersection of Coulter Street will remain open to traffic while the intersection of Queen Lane is closed for the reconstruction of the roadway. Germantown Avenue through traffic is detoured on Wayne Avenue by way of Seymour Street and Armat Street. The contractor will continue the reconstruction of the roadway with the installation of the trolley tracks. The contractor is scheduled to begin the concrete placements for the new trolley track structure in the intersection of Queen Lane this week. Additional crews will work to install sidewalks and ADA ramps at the corners of Penn Street and Queen Lane. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended morning hours are expected during concrete placements.
Coulter Street to Church Lane.
PECO utility crews will work to complete the adjustments to the existing manhole on the west side of Germantown Avenue; once this work is complete the contractor will work to install the remaining sidewalk adjacent to this area. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
High Street to Walnut Lane.
The contractor will continue to perform repairs along the west shoulder of the roadway while the previously completed intersection of Harvey Street remains in cure. This work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. The intersection of West Harvey Street and Germantown Avenue is closed to Harvey Street traffic while Germantown Avenue remains open. Harvey Street traffic is detoured to Walnut Lane by way of Greene Street. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The contractor will continue to perform repairs to the granite block paving on the west side of the Avenue from Queen Lane to Ashmead Street. Queen Lane to Coulter Street
Germantown Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic from just south of Queen Lane to just south of Coulter Street for the reconstruction of the roadway. The intersection of Coulter Street will remain open to traffic while the intersection of Queen Lane is closed for the reconstruction of the roadway. Germantown Avenue through traffic is detoured on Wayne Avenue by way of Seymour Street and Armat Street. The contractor will continue the reconstruction of the roadway with the placement of the asphalt road base followed by the installation of the new trolley tracks. Additional crews will work to install the concrete crosswalks at Penn Street and Queen Lane.
Coulter Street to Church Lane
PECO’s utility crews will work to complete the adjustments to the existing manholes on the west side of Germantown Avenue. Once this work is complete the contractor will work to install the remaining sidewalk adjacent to this area. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours.
High Street/Harvey Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor will continue to perform repairs along the west shoulder of the roadway and in the intersection of West Harvey Street. This work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. The intersection of West Harvey Street and Germantown Avenue is closed to Harvey Street Traffic while Germantown Avenue remains open. Harvey Street traffic is detoured to Walnut Lane by way of Greene Street.
Ashmead Street to Queen Lane
The parking restrictions will continue along the North side of Queen Lane to accommodate a temporary two way traffic pattern from Germantown Avenue to Greene Street. The contractor begin welding the trolley rails in the area just south of Queen Lane in preparation of the installation of the trolley tracks in the intersection of Queen Lane. This work will result in parking restrictions between Bringhurst Street and Queen Lane.
All work is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Reconstruction of Germantown Avenue: September 28 through Friday, October 2
Queen Lane to Coulter Street.
Germantown Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic between Queen Lane and Coulter Street for the reconstruction of the roadway. The intersection of Coulter Street will remain open to traffic while the intersection of Queen Lane closed on September 29 for the reconstruction of the roadway. Germantown Avenue through traffic is detoured on Wayne Avenue by way of Seymour Street and Armat Street. The contractor will begin the removal of the existing roadway in the intersection of Queen Lane and will install the remaining sewer pipe in the intersection. The reconstruction of the intersection is anticipated to be complete by the end of October. Additional crews will continue with the installation of the granite curb and the roadway asphalt base course between Queen Lane and Coulter Street. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Coulter Street to Church Lane.
Utility crews will work to complete the adjustments to the existing manholes on the west side of Germantown and the contractor will work to complete sidewalk adjacent to this area. Additional crews will work to complete the installation of the street trees and associated tree pit work. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The contractor will begin repairs along the west shoulder of the roadway. This work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. The reconstruction of the granite block paving along the west shoulder will also be performed in the intersection of West Harvey Street. This work will result in a closure of the intersection of West Harvey Street and Germantown Avenue. Local traffic will be detoured to Walnut Lane by way of Greene Street. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Additional crews will continue to perform repairs to the granite block paving along the east shoulder of the roadway. These repairs will also be performed in the intersection of Bringhurst Street. This work will result in a closure of this intersection, parking restrictions and lane shifts during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Utility crews will work to complete the adjustments to the existing manhole on the west side of Germantown and the contractor will work to complete adjacent sidewalks. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor has completed installation of the granite block paving along the east side of Germantown Avenue. The contractor will proceed to the west side of the Avenue to complete the repairs along the shoulder of the roadway. This work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. The reconstruction of the granite block paving along the west shoulder will also be performed in the intersection of West Harvey Street. This work will result in a closure of the intersection of West Harvey Street and Germantown Avenue. Local traffic will be detoured to Walnut Lane by way of Greene Street.
Ashmead Street to Queen Lane
The parking restrictions will continue along the North side of Queen Lane to accommodate a temporary two-way traffic pattern from Germantown Avenue to Greene Street. The contractor and utility crews are scheduled to continue the work at the intersection of Ashmead Street. Utility crews will work to complete the adjustments to the existing manhole and the contractor will work to complete the installation of the ADA ramp on the southeast corner of Ashmead Street. Additional crews will continue to perform repairs to the granite block paving along the shoulder of the roadway. This work will result in parking restrictions and lane shifts.
Queen Lane to Coulter Street
Germantown Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic between Queen Lane and Coulter Street for the reconstruction of the roadway. The intersections of Coulter Street and Queen Lane are opened to traffic. The contractor will work to complete the installation the remaining inlets at Queen Lane, which will result in lane shifts on Queen Lane during working hours. PGW work crews will also continue with installation of the new gas main on the west side of Germantown Avenue within the road closure. The contractor is also scheduled to complete the remaining underground utilities within the road closure.

Coulter Street to Church Lane
Utility crews will work to complete the adjustments to the existing manholes on the west side of Germantown Avenue and on the north east corner of Coulter Street and Germantown Avenue. The contractor will work to complete sidewalks and ADA ramps adjacent to these areas. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor will continue with the installation of the granite block paving along the east side of Germantown Avenue along with the ADA ramps on the west side of Germantown Avenue at the intersections of Walnut Lane and West Harvey Street. The work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Ashmead Street to Queen Lane
The parking restrictions will continue along the north side of Queen Lane to accommodate a temporary two-way traffic pattern from Germantown Avenue to Greene Street. This work will result in parking restrictions along the Avenue during working hours. Pedestrian access is being maintained through the work zone during the sidewalk construction. The contractor is scheduled to work Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
High Street to Walnut Lane
PECO crews will work along the east side of Germantown Avenue to complete the underground utility work. The contractor will continue with the installation of the granite block paving along the east side of Germantown Avenue along with the ADA ramps on the west side of Germantown Avenue at the intersections of Walnut Lane and West Harvey Street. The work will result in lane shifts and parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. The contractor is scheduled to work Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The work will result in parking restrictions along both sides of Germantown Avenue. Crews will work from 7 am to 3:30 pm.

Coulter Street to Church Lane
Germantown Avenue is closed from just north of Coulter Street to just north of Church Lane. The intersection of Coulter Street and Germantown Avenue is opened to Coulter Street traffic. Vehicular traffic is able to access Church Lane from Market Square. Coulter Street has been temporarily changed to accommodate two-way local traffic between Greene Street and Germantown Avenue. The current detour remains in effect for Germantown Avenue.
The detour begins at Seymour Street continues to Wayne Avenue and returns to Germantown Avenue by way of Maplewood Avenue/Armat Street. The SEPTA Route 23 bus detour information is posted at the relocated bus stops along Germantown Avenue. The contractor will continue the reconstruction of the roadway between Church Lane and Coulter Street with the completion of the granite block paving. The intersection of Church Lane is reopened to traffic. The contractor will continue with the reconstruction of the sidewalks and street lighting on both sides of Germantown Avenue within this closed section of the Avenue. The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The intersection of East High Street and Germantown Avenue will be reopened this week. East High Street will revert back to one way traffic once the intersection is reopened. Northbound Germantown Avenue is closed from East High Street to just south of Walnut Lane for the total reconstruction of the northbound roadway. Germantown Avenue through traffic should follow the extended detour on Wayne Avenue returning to Germantown Avenue by way of Washington Lane. The intersection of Walnut Lane can be accessed from southbound Germantown Avenue. Ashmead Street to Queen Lane
Germantown Avenue remains closed to vehicular traffic from just north of Ashmead Street to just south of Queen Lane. The current detour begins at Seymour Street continues to Wayne Avenue and returns to Germantown Avenue by way of Maplewood Avenue/Armat Street. The SEPTA Route 23 bus detour also uses Seymour Street and turns onto Greene Street and returns to Germantown Avenue by way of Maplewood Avenue/Armat Street. Additional information is posted at the relocated bus stops along Germantown Avenue.
The intersection of Germantown Avenue and Bringhurst Street is closed and access to Bringhurst Street is by way of Wakefield for local traffic only. Bringhurst Street has parking restrictions on the south side of the block to accommodate temporary two way traffic on this block. Parking has also been restricted along the North side of Queen Lane to accommodate a temporary two way traffic pattern from Germantown Avenue to Greene Street.
The contractor will continue the installation of the new trolley tracks and will continue with concrete placements for the track structure from Bringhurst Street to Queen Lane. The contractor has begun the installation of the granite block paving within the road closure. Concrete placements are scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The contractor will work extended early morning hours during the concrete placements.
Queen Lane to Coulter Street
The contractor has completed the installation of the sewer laterals along the west side of Germantown Avenue and inlets at Penn Street. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm.
Coulter Street to Church Lane
The contractor has completed installation of water main in the intersection of Coulter Street. The contractor is scheduled to work on the inlets on the west side of Germantown Avenue at the intersection of Coulter Street. This work will result in lane shifts through the intersection between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Work will also continue on the sewer laterals along the west side of Germantown Avenue. This work may result in lane shifts and parking restrictions during working hours. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm.
High Street to Walnut Lane

The contractor has completed installation of the water main that extends into east Coulter and will work to complete the remaining water main work on the south east corner of Coulter Street. This work will result in a temporary closure of Coulter Street between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The contractor is also scheduled to complete the installation of the inlet on the North East corner of Coulter Street. The contractor will begin preparation for granite curb along the east side of Germantown Avenue.
This work may result in lane shifts and parking restrictions during working hours. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm.
High Street to Walnut Lane

The contractor will continue with the installation of the sewer laterals along the west side of Germantown Avenue. This work will result in temporary lane shifts during the installation of the sewer laterals. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm.
Coulter Street to Church Lane - the contractor will complete the installation of water main tie-in in Coulter Street along with the sewer laterals on the east side of Germantown Avenue. The contractor will begin preparation for the new sidewalks and granite curb along the east side of Germantown Avenue. This work may result in lane shifts and parking restrictions during working hours. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor has completed the installation of the concrete sidewalk and concrete base course in preparation of the brick paver replacement. The contractor will begin the installation of the new brick footway on the west side of Germantown Avenue. The contractor has also completed the installation of the trolley poles and street lights along the west side of Germantown Avenue. Pedestrian access is being maintained along the east side of Germantown Avenue during working hours and temporary walking surfaces will be present along the west side of Germantown Avenue during non-working hours. Parking will be restricted on the east side of Germantown Avenue while the work is being completed on the west side of Germantown Avenue. The work is scheduled between 7 am to 4 pm.

The contractor has completed the installation of water main tie-in in Church Lane. They will continue with the installation of sewer laterals on the east side of Germantown Avenue. The contractor will also work to

The contractor will also begin to place the new concrete sidewalk adjacent to the brick footway on the west side of Germantown Avenue. Pedestrian access is being maintained along the east side of Germantown Avenue during working hours and temporary walking surfaces will be present along the west side of Germantown Avenue during non-working hours. The closure of the intersection will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additional signage will be installed to direct traffic around the work zone. This work may also impact parking on the west side of Germantown Avenue at Penn Street. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm. and should be completed within two days of the temporary closure.
Coulter Street to Church Lane.
The contractor is scheduled to complete the installation of the water services along Germantown Avenue from Coulter Street to Church Lane. They will also install the water main tie-in in Church Lane. A temporary closure of the intersection of Church Lane and Germantown Avenue will be required to complete this work. Vehicular traffic will access Church Lane by way of Schoolhouse Lane. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 pm. and should be completed within a day of the temporary closure. This closure will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
High Street to Walnut Lane
The contractor has completed the installation of the street light foundations on the west side of Germantown Avenue. They will continue to prepare sidewalk area for brick sidewalk replacement. The contractor will also be installing trolley poles along the west side of Germantown Avenue. Pedestrian access is being maintained along the east and west side of Germantown Avenue. Parking will be restricted on the east side of Germantown Avenue while the work is being completed on the west side of Germantown Avenue. The work is scheduled between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
